Big Brothers Big Sisters

April marks my two year anniversary as a  “Big” sister. I first became involved with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program right after I moved to the Bay Area.  I had a lot of time on my hands and I was still trying to meet people in the city.  I love exploring San Francisco, so I thought, Hey, why not share the experience with a “Little” sister.

So in 2008, I was matched with Zarhea.  She is 13 years old, athletic, super smart and a blast to hang out with.  Once she was memorizing as many numbers as she could of π (pi) for a school competition and after about 3.1415926535897932…she kept going and going, and I was floored! I couldn’t stop laughing!

Another fond memory is our trip to Tahoe for our one year anniversary.  It was the first time Zarhea not only snow boarded, but it was her first time in the snow. She was getting tired of trying to stay up on her board and I thought the rest of the day was going to be a bust.  Well after lunch she proved me wrong because not only did she get it, but we were able to do a whole mountain run together.  It was a great weekend.
