Rock ‘N’ Roll ½ Marathon

This year, I decided to run the Rock ‘N’ Roll ½Marathon to raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters.  Big Brothers Big Sisters is a great organization that pairs children with adult mentors who help them reach their full potential and provide positive influences in their lives.  My co-worker, Rachel, is a Big Sister in this organization and I really wanted to help raise money for them.   I couldn’t think of a better reason to run my first ½ marathon.

I am not the type of girl that works out frequently, but I felt like this would be a good opportunity for me to get in the habit of exercising regularly.   I started off strong with my training program and was running five days a week, keeping a training calendar, going out less and eating much healthier.  This lasted for about 6 weeks and then I fell off the wagon.

Suddenly, it was race day, and I wasn’t anywhere near prepared. I hadn’t run for at least a month and had never broken 5 miles in my training. I did have a pretty good running outfit and well, that was about it.  True to form, I went to a concert the night before the race knowing that I had to wake up at 4am and run over 13 miles.  When I got to the race, I decided I was going to run the whole thing, and I did. I actually crossed the finished line with a pretty good time, if I don’t say so myself.

Now, I have my eye on the San Francisco ½ marathon in July.  This time around, I am going to do my best to keep a better training schedule.  I figure, at this point, at least I know it is possible for me to run 13 miles.  Stay tuned …..
